After months of hard work, the doors to Old Abbey House were opened last week for an exclusive look inside…
Local residents, community figures, members of the site team and local businesses came together for a launch event where we celebrated the recent completion of this exceptional new hotel.
The Ede Holdings Group purchased the 18th century building in 2021 and having stood empty since 2014 the former council office had become dilapidated and required urgent work to the roof. Our expert team then worked meticulously to regenerate the historic building and ensure the careful preservation and restoration of the beautiful features such as original fireplaces, stunning oak staircase and original sash windows. Fast forward to September 2023 and this beautiful grade II listed building has been totally transformed whilst retaining its rich history and timeless charm. Old Abbey House has been stylishly finished with a high-quality specification and furnished by prestigious interior design group Accouter.
Alice Ede, of Ede Homes, comments: "Old Abbey House Hotel is a 27-bedroom boutique hotel located in the heart of Abingdon, harmonising traditional charm of this lovingly restored 18th century building, alongside chic modern amenities.
"Each of the rooms are individually designed with 15 of the rooms having stylish kitchenettes, allowing for longer stays. Guests can also choose the option of garden view rooms which overlook the picturesque Abbey Gardens. There is a wide variety of accommodation available; from cosy doubles, twin rooms, king rooms, a family room and deluxe suites."
Having originally built and co-owned the Four Pillars Hotel Group (with hotels including the Oxford Thames, Oxford Spires, Cotswold Water Park and Tortworth Court), we are excited to return to the hotel sector. Ede Homes has already opened 192 in Oxford’s Iffley Road, and work has begun on converting the former Victoria Hotel in Abingdon Road into the 38-room Edge Hotel. We also recently purchased the historic Feathers Hotel in Woodstock and are due to start restoration works early next year.
